Take the Leap: Go Organic
We speak with guests here every day who are interested in going completely organic in their gardening, but just aren’t sure how to take the leap. As with most things, a solid foundation is key–and in gardening, that foundation is your soil. Organic practices are a better long-term investment because they promote the long-term health of the soil instead of just short-term results. Here are a few of our very favorite foundation builders:
Vital Earth Organic Compost–we say it all the time, and we can’t say it enough. There’s no such thing as too much compost! Compost is made of decomposed organic matter like dry leaves and lawn clippings. It’s ideal for adding long-term nutrients to the soil while increasing aeration and drainage. Compost is blended with native soil at the time of planting and additional is added seasonally as a topdress.
Nature’s Guide Dry Molasses–it’s dessert for beneficial soil microbes! Molasses really feeds the workers who live in the soil and process organic matter, keeping them going strong–and thus your plants going strong, as well.
Medina Soil Activator–the prescription for poor, tired or overworked soils. Soil activator works to balance and aerate the soil, resulting in healthier, deeper root systems for your plants. It’s a great product for those just starting with organics, as it helps to reduce chemical residues and salts from past synthetic programs. It helps to balance soil pH and stimulate beneficial organisms, leading to long-term soil health.
These are just a few of our favorite products that we stand by here at NHG–we have used them for years in our own gardens, and we continue to reap the rewards. Want to learn more?
