Garden Coach Program

Are you a beginning gardener and need some help getting started? Perhaps you have a new home and need help addressing existing challenges, or you’re ready for a fresh garden makeover. A visit with a Garden Coach will help take your gardening skills to the next level.

When you meet with the Garden Coaches at North Haven Gardens, they’ll help you identify areas in your landscape ready for improvement, suggest new approaches to refresh outdoor living spaces, recommend the proper plants for your needs, and provide planting and maintenance information. With your consultation, you’ll receive a voucher good for 20% off all full-price merchandise for 30 days which you can apply to your purchases!
* All Garden Coach clients will be enrolled in our NHG Grow Card program and accrue points toward cash off retail purchases.

To make the most of your time, we suggest having:

* A list of at least 3 goals you want to accomplish in your garden. This list will help your Garden Coach zero in quickly on your most important needs.
* Photos, books, and magazines with images of plants, gardens or features you like. This list will help your Garden Coach visualize your own style preferences.
* Your completed NHG Garden Planner, which will be emailed to you when your appointment is confirmed.
* A plat of your property, if you have one. A plat is not necessary, but is often helpful to understand the scale of your house to the surrounding property.

Please note: Our Garden Coach service does not include garden design services. While your Garden Coach will make plant and layout recommendations on your planner, we do not provide a full garden design. NHG does offer the Landscape Concierge Service, a list of independent landscape companies, at nhg.com.

There are two options for your Garden Coach appointment:

In-Store / Phone Consultation

$50 for a 45 minute meeting and $30 for each additional 30 minutes, either in our store, over the phone, or virtually via FaceTime or Google Duo.

At-Home Consultation

$150 for the first hour of consultation and $65 for each subsequent 30-minute block. Appointments available within our delivery area.

Brieux Turner

I have been a Garden Advisor at North Haven Gardens for over 14 years. Prior to that, I owned my own landscape business, Third Coast Inc., in Houston for 35 years. I have a diverse background in landscape design, plant selection, soil preparation and vegetable gardening, and I am flexible in educating customers on all aspects of garden and landscape layouts, installation, and maintenance. I’m also proud to say that 90% of the landscape on my 1-acre property is Texas natives from NHG! *Weekend appointments available*

Kay Nelson, TCNP

I have over 40 years of experience in the field of horticulture and I have been Garden Advisor and Garden Coach with North Haven Gardens since 2005. Prior to that time, I had my own interior landscape company, Caretakers; volunteered at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Society; taught classes, and did public speaking on various related topics. I am a Texas Certified Nursery Professional and Rosemary Circle Member at-large of The Herb Society of America.

Lynette Hoyt

My formal education and background are in horticulture & landscape design, and one of my passions is matching the right plants with people who want to give them homes. I’ve worked independently and for other nurseries, but I feel like I’ve found a true home when I joined the North Haven team in 2015. Since then, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed sharing with our customers the knowledge they need to keep their landscapes thriving and bring lasting, artful beauty and value to their homes.
