Inspiration from Nature
Ready or not, the holidays are upon us! As I write this, I can look out to our newly-arrived stock of fresh evergreen wreaths, swags and garland. With trees arriving next week and ready the day after Thanksgiving, it's time to get inspired!
During my years as the horticulturist for Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch (another great Dallas institution that began in the 50s) I led many floral and creative workshops for members and their guests. The one that stands out the most, though, was the wreath workshop–it quickly became a tradition for families to enjoy together. I found that many people love the fragrance and authenticity of fresh greenery, but they're intimidated by the thought of working with it hands-on and personalizing their finds. So, we decided to try a demo here at North Haven Gardens, where I'll be set up near the greenery to show our guests just how easy and rewarding that creating with fresh greenery and foliage can be.
With a few simple tools–scissors, pruners, wire snips and some floral wire–you can take a basic pre-made evergreen wreath and create a one-of-a-kind specimen piece that is unique to your home and decor. It's fun, relaxing, and inspiring–and sure to become a tradition in your holiday plans. Join me this Saturday, November 23rd between 1 & 2pm in the bedding annuals area of the store to see just how I approach this much-loved creative project.
Sandi Schwedler, our hardgoods, gift and decor buyer, has selected an array of gorgeous pieces inspired from nature for this year's offerings in the store. Check out our cotton boll and pinecone garlands–truly unique accents that are sure to draw conversation on your holiday table or mantel: We'll have a variety of branches, berries, pinecones and eucalyptus, too, so come prepared to get inspired and start creating!
