Seasonal Tips to Decorate Your Entryway

The recent nip in the air has reminded us that in spite of a warm autumn so far, the holidays are upon us. Is your entry ready?

Dress up your entry
We love how the variegated hollies compliment the pots’ bright pop of apple green in these entry containers at NHG.

A splash of bright contrasting color adds eye-catching curb appeal and sets the stage for softer textures. We love the versatility that glazed ceramic planters offer for keeping your color pallette fresh and current in your front entry design:

During our chilly north Texas winters, fresh cut greenery and branches provide volume and structure to container plantings. Take an ordinary color pot with ornamental kale, pansies and dusty miller to the next level with slender birch twigs, glossy magnolia foliage, and fragrant fir. Coordinate the greenery in your containers with the wreath and garland adorning your front door, and you’ve got an entry composition that will have your guests talking:

Winter-fruiting shrubs and berry-laden cut branches add dimension and texture to your entry composition. The structural branches and berries add interest to any color container:

Forced bulbs are another way to add sparkle to your entry plantings, especially for a special event. Paperwhite narcissus that have been forced to bloom indoors can be brought out and staged into your entry pots, adding a peek of spring and delightful fragrance for passersby:

And, forced bulbs combine beautifully with other winter color favorites–especially lemon Cypress:

Don’t forget to add touches of natural color and textural interest with accessories from your preserved harvest! One of our favorites are these dried orange slices–while slightly fragrant, they add the perfect touch to both fresh and faux wreaths and garlands–and they make great vase fill or table scatter, too:

Lastly, ’tis the season for foliage–both cut and growing, leaves offer texture, color, and of course, fragrance:
