Salsa Sunday contest winners!
Thank you to all our participants! We had 17 salsas to judge this year. Everything from sizzling hot tomato salsa to sweet and tangy fruit salsas. Winning salsas were based on creativity, texture and flavor. Be sure to join in on the fun next year!
Salsa Sunday 2009 - Be creative, have fun!

First Prize: Ann Rogers
Ann won basket of herbs & a $100 NHG Gift Card!
We loved the texture and fresh flavor of this salsa. We also loved the handfuls of this and that measuring!
Roasted Corn & Black Bean Salsa

      4-6 ears roasted corn
      1 can black beans, drained & rinsed
      1 chopped avacado (add just before serving)
      1 chopped red onion
      handful of cilantro
      red pepper
      jalepenos to taste
      chopped green onion
      garlic to taste
      black pepper & salt to taste
      lime juice
      1 chopped tomato
      brown sugar to taste
      handful of mint
      soy sauce

    Chop and combine all incredients except avacado. Mix well. Add chopped avocado just before serving.

    Susan used organic tomatoes, onions, peppers
    and herbs from her garden. A fresh, creative approach
    to salsa. We think it would be great on chips, fish,
    or bruschetta.

    Italian Summer Salsa

      1.5 finely chopped tomatoes
      .5 cup chopped olives
      1 small onion, finely chopped
      .5 small bell pepper, finely chopped
      1 jalepeno pepper, finely chopped
      1 tsp. minced garlic
      1 tsp. minced Italian parsley
      2 tsp. minced oregano
      1 Tblsp. balsamic vinegar
      2 Tblsp. finely chopped fresh basil

      Mix all ingredients except basil. Add basil just before serving.

    This flavorful salsa had just enough heat that didn't overpower our tastebuds. We could definitely 
     see this simple recipe using fresh tomatoes
    from our garden! Addictive!

    Blazin' Saddles Salsa

      20 boiled jalapenos, 3 with seeds
      2 cilantro bunches
      2/28 oz. Tomatoes--canned whole 
      garlic salt to taste
      2 sm. onions
      2 14 oz tomato sauce

      Blend all ingredients in a food processor and enjoy!
