Gifts! Gifts! Gifts! We have great gifts for all occasions at North Haven Gardens — Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, weddings, birthdays and holiday.
Sun dials add a beautiful touch of history to any garden. With our sunny climate, they tell time almost all year long. We have a lovely new collection of copper sun dials, adorned with dragon flies and hummingbird scrolls.
Add the sound of water to a room or garden by selecting from the many beautiful Verdi-finish wall fountains that have just arrived. They are adorned with cherubs, hummingbirds, or tiny song birds. One of these delightful fountains would be a wonderful surprise for any gift occasion.
Our selection of faux orchids continues to be one of the most popular items. Our customers are amazed to discover they are not real and require only dusting to keep their blooms bright. The collection now includes several new varieties of orchids and some colorful primroses. These are attractively pre-packaged — just add a ribbon or bow!
Brilliant-colored glass vases and bowls continually join the outstanding groups of ceramic containers already available. The new blue-and-white containers feature an oriental theme and are adorned with written Asian characters. Many of the ceramic containers are in pastel colors or soft summer colors. We have a small collection of jungle-theme ceramics that would enhance any tropical plant. Remember, our greenhouse is bursting with beautiful tropical plants that love to live outside during the summer.
For someone who remembers Simon & Garfunkel’s music of the early ‘70s, consider putting together a Scarborough Faire container garden of “parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme.” We stock many varieties of these popular herbs for you to choose from.
Hummingbirds are arriving daily. Tempt them with a beautiful brilliantly colored feeder and watch them dart about in territorial display. Hang one from a tree branch, a garden crook, or under an eave from a hook. Add a bright spot of color in the garden with colored-glass lily blooms held by copper wire poles. These butterfly feeders catch the rain water and butterflies and small birds enjoy them immensely.
A North Haven Gardens’ gift certificate is always a favorite gift for any garden lover. Remember, the staff is always ready with new suggestions for gifts. Don’t hesitate to ask what’s new and where it is. We’re here to help you with your garden and gift needs.

Plants for Perennial Borders
By Judy Fender
Coreopsis 'Early Sunrise'
If you have a lot of sun in your garden area, try plants that are adapted to light, bright and drought-tolerant conditions such as Purple Cornflower, “Sweet William” dianthus, “Dragon’s Blood” Sedum, Shasta Daisies, “Early Sunrise” Coreopsis (native).
If you are looking for shade plants for that shady border in your garden, try planting coral bells, hostas (many different ones to choose from — see our Hosta Listing), violets, or oxalis. Hardy Ferns are also great in shady areas. You might try Korean Rock Fern, Japanese Painted Fern, Tassel Fern, or a Holly Fern. Rosy Maidenhair Ferns are great tucked in shady, moist corners, or near a shady portion of a pond or garden stream.
