Calendar of Events at North Haven Gardens
January and February 2001

Birdhouse Competition - Deadline date is February 21st at 5:00 p.m.

Birds are always a pleasure to watch in the garden, and providing a home for their young will enhance your enjoyment. Now is your opportunity to throw off the mid-winter blahs and create a thing of joy for your feathered friends. Rules - there are no rules other than YOU have to have made or decorated the birdhouse. You can make your birdhouse entry from wood, plastic, metal, pottery, or whatever crosses your mind during your creative construction phase. It must be "habitable" - no painted black holes on the front, please - so a potential bird tenant will want to enjoy your housing creation this spring.

Birdhouses will be judged on originality, appearance, construction, design, and usefulness. A junior division will also be judged - so get those kids involved, too. A "People's Choice" vote will be held during the weekend of February 24-25 - the entries will be on display in a designated area so you can cast your vote. The winners will be announced in the March/April newsletter, and gift certificates will be awarded to the winners.

So, gather up that old scrap lumber, plastic milk bottles, gourds, and whatever else might make a good bird house and get to work! Decorate it with paint, natural materials, and whatever else you can glue or nail to it - whatever strikes your creative fancy. Build an estate or a simple single-family home and deliver it to North Haven Gardens by Wednesday, February 21st, at 5:00 p.m. All bird houses will be returned to the entrants.
