Easy 1, 2, 3...
Grow Your Own Roses!

Romantic color in the
garden and containers
every spring!

  1. Choose your location.
Your roses should be located in an area that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day, near easy access to water and has good air circulation. Use our
NHG Garden Planner to create a map of your landscape.
  2. Prepare your soil.
Fertile, well drained soil is necessary for a successful roses. Add amendments such as Vital Earth Ready Rose Mix, Living Earth Organic Compost and Expanded Shale to your existing soil to improve soil quality and drainage.
  3. Plant your roses.
First, dig a hole just as deep and twice as wide as the root ball of the plant. Fill the hole with water and let it drain completely before planting. We sell our roses planted in bio-degradable fiber pots. These pots can be placed directly into the soil. Place the rose in the hole with 1 to 2 inches of the top of the container above the soil line. Once planted, cut away the top of the container. Roses require the equivalent of 1” of rainfall per week to thrive.
Fertilize your roses with Espoma Rose Food, Carl Pool Instant Rose Food, or Maestro Gro Rose Glo for an organic option.  Mark your roses with Plant Markers so you know what variety is planted where. And, don’t forget a sturdy pair of Felco Pruners and Rose Gloves!

Enjoy!
